History
CUJS, formally established in 1937, has a long and fascinating history. Indeed, various Jewish student societies existed long before CUJS came to be. Much of the history of Jewish students in Cambridge is immortalised in the expansive “Gown & Tallith” book, edited by William Frankel and Harvey Miller to commemorate our 50th anniversary in 1987. We therefore thought that as the academic year 2016/17 will see us mark our 80th year, in this octogenarian spirit, we would post regular items of historical interest that give you just a small insight into the unique and wonderful place that is CUJS.
To start the ball rolling, we thought we would show you a selection of some of our past term cards from the last 20 years, and we have begun a new feature section of the website which archives information about our past chaplains, all of whom have made valuable contributions to CUJS and all of whom definitely deserve recognition on the site. If anyone remembers any chaplains that stretch back beyond our current records, or has any documents or anecdotes of note let us know by contacting our Alumni and Development Officer.
