JSEM Judaism in Cambridge
Egal-min - the Jewish Society Egalitarian Minyan Hi! We’re Lucy and Michal, your egal-min reps for this term! We’re here to provide for the needs of everyone in Cambridge who cares about their Judaism but is looking for a non-Orthodox perspective. The minyan is an informal community centred around prayer services where men and women may participate in the same ways, and an alternative approach to Judaism that you might not find at Thompson's Lane. We’re here for all who feel like coming - whether you define yourself as Liberal, Reform, Conservative, Masorti, are confused, or don't like labels at all! We have a song-filled, relaxed and friendly Friday night service. Like everything in CUJS, we're run by students, for students so try us just once, and see if you enjoy it enough to come back – so many people have, that our numbers have almost doubled over the past year! Find us in King's College Keynes Hall, where we’ll run services each week from 6pm. We run educational events, holding informal learning sessions throughout the term led by prominent speakers from egalitarian communities as well as hosting social events where you can relax, eat, drink and be merry whilst getting to know other people in the minyan better! We're also in contact with the local Reform Community, Beth Shalom, and once each term we organise a Student Shabbat, where we are invited to organise and lead a service at the synagogue. Find out about all this and more via our email list! Sign up here. There's loads going on, and your egalitarian reps, Michal and Lucy, check their email often so are guaranteed to get back to you if you want more information! Contact us via the Contact Page. |
